How your answer sheet should look:
    Spoiler:

If you want to add any additional comments to the quiz feel free to do so as I will read each one and appreciate the feedback. You might want to include questions you liked, questions you didn't like, what other type of questions you would like to see on the quiz etc. By next week I will release the results and let you know who the winner(s) are for the week as well as give you detailed answers for each question. Good luck and hopefully this is the start to building yor Yu-Gi-Oh card knowledge.

The winner(s) will recieve 200 SC

    Question 1:
Player A Normal Summons Debris Dragon and Special Summons Dandylion from the Graveyard. He/she then sends both Dandylion and Debris Dragon to the the Graveyard for a Synchro Summon. Which of the following is correct?

a). Player A can Synchro Summon Ancient Fairy Dragon, Dandylion's effect cannot be activated as Debris Dragon's effect negates Dandylion's effect.

b). Player A can Synchro Summon Black Rose Dragon and activate it's effect. Dandylion's effect will activate and resolve first and the 2 "Fluffy Tokens" will be destroyed by Black Rose Dragon's effect.

c). Player A can Synchro Summon Exploder Dragonwing, Dandylion's effect cannot be activated as Debris Dragon's effect negates Dandylion's effect.

d). Player A can Synchro Summon Power Tool Dragon, Dandylion's effect will activate and 2 "Fluffy Tokens" will be Special Summoned to Player A's side of the field.

    e). None of the above.

    Question 2:
Player A controls a face-up Thunder King Rai-Oh (1900 ATK) and has Skill Drain active on the field, Player B controls Soldier of Mist Valley (ATK 1700) in face-up Attack Position. Player A enters the Battle Phase and attacks Soldier of Mist Valley with Thunder King Rai-Oh. Which of the following is correct?

a). Player B will lose 200 LP and Soldier of Mist Valley will be destroyed. Soldier of Mist Valley's effect will activate but will be negated by Skill Drain.

b). Player B will lose 200 LP and Soldier of Mist Valley will be destroyed. Soldier of Mist Valley's effect will activate in the Graveyard and will be unaffected by Skill Drain.Thunder King Rai-Oh will be returned to the owners hand at the end of the Damage Step.

c). Player B will lose 200 LP and Soldier of Mist Valley will be destroyed. Soldier of Mist Valley's effect cannot be activated because it is no longer on the field.

d). Player B will lose 200 LP and Soldier of Mist Valley will be destroyed. Soldier of Mist Valley's effect will activate but will not be negated by Skill Drain because Skill Drain is Spell Speed 2 and cannot be activated in the Damage Step.

e). Player B will lose 200 LP and Soldier of Mist Valley will be destroyed. Soldier of Mist Valley's effect will activate but Thunder King Rai-Oh's effect stops players adding any card(s) to their hand, so it will remain on the field.

    Question 3:
Player A has just Special Summoned Caius the Shadow Monarch with Call of the Haunted, Player A then activates Emergency Teleport and Special Summons Krebons to the field in face-up Attack Position. Which of the following is correct?

a). Player B can activate Book of Moon and target Krebons or Caius the Shadow Monarch. Player A will not be able to Synchro Summon a monster with Krebons and Caius the Shadow Monarch this turn.

b). Player B can activate Book of Moon and target Krebons. Player A will not be able to Synchro Summon a monster with Krebons and Caius the Shadow Monarch this turn. Furthermore Krebons will be removed from play during the End Phase.

c). Player B can activate Book of Moon and target Krebons. Krebons will be flipped face-down. Player A can still Synchro Summon a level 8 monster because both players know that the face-down card is Krebons.

d). Player B can activate Book of Moon and target Caius the Shadow Monarch. Caius the Shadow Monarch will be flipped face-down. Player A can still Synchro Summon a level 8 Synchro monster because only the Tuner monster needs to be face-up on the field.

e). Player B can pay half his/her Life Points and activate Solemn Judgment in response to the Special Summon of Krebons. Krebons Summon will be negated and Krebons will be destroyed.

    Question 4:
Player A has a face-up Blackwing Gale the Whirlwind face-up on the field. Player B controls a Morphtronic Boomboxen equipped with Double Tool C&D. Player A activates Blackwing Gale the Whirlwind's effect and targets Morphtronic Boomboxen. Which of the following is correct?

    a). Morphtronic Boomboxen's ATK will become 600.

b). Morphtronic Boomboxen's ATK will be 600 during Player A's turn and 1600 during player B's turn.

c). Morphtronic Boomboxen's ATK will be 1600 during player A's turn and 600 during player B's turn.

d). Morphtronic Boomboxen's ATK will be 1100 because Gale the Whirlwind's effect will take into account the possible ATK boost from Double Tool C&D

    e). None of the above.

    Question 5: True or False?
You must tribute Synchro Material monsters from the field to the Graveyard in order to preform a sucessful Synchro Summon.

    Question 6: True or False?
Mist Wurm can be Synchro Summoned using Krebons, Cyber Dragon and Plaguespreader Zombie.

    Question 7: True or False?
Junk Synchron's negation effect does not target the monster that you select to Special Summon from your Graveyard.

    Question 8: True or False?
Synchro Summons are not inherent Special Summons because they are Summoned using a Tuner monster.

    Question 9: Extended Answer.
In a short paragraph, explain your answer to Question 8.

Question 10: Win in this turn.

    SCENARIO:
    Your Life Points: 500
    Your opponents Life Points: 5000
You have Destiny Hero Malicious left in the Deck (assume the rest of your cards have been removed from play).

Your field: Destiny Hero Defender (DEF position), Call of the Haunted (Set), Jar of Greed (Set).
Your hand: Krebons, Smashing Ground, Marshmallon and Chaos Sorceror.
Your Graveyard: Plaguespreader Zombie, Copy Plant, X-Saber Airbellum, Destiny Hero Malicious.

Your opponents side of the field: Blue-Eyes White Dragon (ATK position), Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon (ATK position), Prime Material Dragon (ATK position), Dark Horus (ATK position), Mirror Force (Set)
Your opponents hand: 5 unknown cards.
    Your opponents Graveyard: Dark Grepher.

    Screenshot:
    Spoiler:

    - Assume your opponent will use Dark Horus' effect if you activate a Spell Card
    - You may have any 15 Synchro Monsters from KCVDS in your Extra Deck.

Explain using these cards how you would win the duel in this turn.

Remember to PM me the answers, good luck to everyone who enters.

Post by The Detonator Fri Mar 26, 2010 12:23 pm

    RESULTS:

    Question 1:
    Correct answer: e
    a). 30.77%
    b). 30.77%
    c). 0%
    d). 23.08%
    e). 15.38%

So the correct answer was e, this was a tough question to start off with and probably one of the most difficult questions in this weeks quiz. The least given answer was infact the correct one so if you did get this incorrect, this will be a good question to read up on. You had to go through each option and figure out if it was wrong or not, so let's analyse each of the responses.

    Response a).
I can see exactly why people would choose this answer over all of the rest. "That monster's effect(s) is negated" is the effect that is applied to the monster that Debris Dragon targets to Special Summon from the Graveyard. So why is it wrong? Well, Debris Dragon's effect no longer targets the Special Summoned monster once it is on the field, the negation effect is simply applied to the monster. So because the negation effect was applied to the monster on the field, it will only affect the monster as long as it stays on the field. Once Dandylion is sent to the Graveyard, its effect activates in the Graveyard and Debris Dragon's negation effect will no longer apply.

SUMMARISING: The negation effect applied by a monster (in this case Debris Dragon), will only affect the negated monster (in this case Dandylion), in the zone it is in when it is negated (in this case, the monster card zone, or the field).

    Response b).
Another popular response, this is incorrect due to the way that the chain resolves. When you Synchro Summon Black Rose Dragon using Dandylion and Debris Dragon, the following chain will occur, pay attention to how the chain works and why it resolves in this way.

Player A sends both Dandylion and Debris Dragon to the the Graveyard to Synchro Summon Black Rose Dragon.
Chain Link 1: Dandylion's effect activates.
Chain Link 2: Player A chooses to activate Black Rose Dragon's destruction effect.
    ---- Chain resolves backwards ----
Chain Link 2: Black Rose Dragon's effect resolves. All cards on the field are destroyed.
Chain Link 1: Dandylion's effect resolves. 2 "Fluffy Tokens" are Special Summoned to the field.

So why does Dandylion become chain link 1? Dandylion's effect is a Mandatory Trigger Effect, Mandatory Trigger Effects are effects that must activate when a condition happens (you do not have a "you can" option in the effect text). So as soon as Dandylion is sent to the Graveyard, its effect will activate immidiantly and become Chain Link 1. Black Rose Dragon is then Synchro Summoned and chains itself to Dandylion's effect. As we all should know, the chain should then resolve backwards and in the end, you will get your Fluffy Tokens.

SUMMARISING: Mandatory Trigger effects activate as soon as their condition is met. They will become Chain Link 1 in most cases.

    Response c).
This is incorrect because Exploder Dragonwing requires "1 Tuner 1 or more non-Tuner Dragon-Type monsters". Dandylion is not a Dragon-Type monster or a Tuner so this condition cannot be met. Also, as explained with response a), Dandylion's effect will not be negated.

    Response d).
A number of responses for d. This is incorrect because Power Tool Dragon is not a Dragon-Type monster. From Debris Dragon's effect, we can see that he can only Special Summon a Dragon-Type Synchro Monster when you use him as Synchro Material.

    Response e).
This is the only correct answer because the rest are incorrect.

    Question 2:
    Correct answer: c
    a). 23.08%
    b). 7.69%
    c). 61.54%
    d). 7.69%
    e). 0%

I believe this question was a lot easier than the first and was somewhat more straightforward. more people answered it correctly so good job. However, we still had people give some incorrect answers so let's reveiw:

    Response a).
There are 2 key reasons why this response is incorrect. The first being, Soldier of Mist Valley was destroyed and is no longer on the field, if its effect was an effect that will activate when it is in the Graveyard it will be unaffected by Skill Drain. Remember, Skill Drain only negates effects that activate while on the field! Also, for those who understand the way that Soldier of Mist Valley's effect works, would also realise that his effect does not activate when he is destroyed. Why? More on this in response b).

SUMARISING: Skill Drain only affects monster effects trying to resolve while the monster is face-up on the field.

    Response b).
Now i will explain why it is Soldier of Mist Valley will infact not activate when he is destroyed. To begin with we must analyse the text of the card itself:

(I understand KCVDS has the INCORRECT effect text and I appologise for those of you who got this incorrect due to KCVDS). The actual effect text is:
"While you control this face-up card, any opponent's monster that battles this card, but is not destroyed by battle, returns to its owner's hand at the end of the Damage Step."

The key thing to understand is that this card must be face-up on the field for this effect to resolve properly. As most of you should know, Soldier of Mist Valley will be in the Graveyard at the end of the Damage Step, not on the field, so it's effect will not activate. Once again I appologise for KCVDS having the incorrect card text, I didn't realise when i wrote this test up.

    Response c).
As we see from response b). This is the correct answer.

    Response d).
Here, we have three things wrong with this, as we have said, Soldier of Mist Valley will not activate, the second, (as we know from response a, card effects resolving in the Graveyard are unaffected by Skill Drain). Lastly, and the more important error in this response, has to do with Skill Drain. Yes, Skill Drain is a Spell Seed 2 card. (All continuous trap cards are of Spell Speed 2). However, because this card is continuous, and its effect is being applied at all times, it does not "activate" when a monster's effect is trying to resolve. It is instead continuously negating these effects, and will do this even through the entire Damage Step if the situation was to occur. Cards like Royal Oppression however, may be a continuous trap card, but its effect is not always being applied, you must infact activate it when you want to use it (this is mainly due to the fact that you have a choice to negate with Royal Oppression, whereas with Skill Drain it's effect must and is always applied). So knowing this, Royal Oppression cannot be activated in the Damage Step, seeming as you do need to activate this card when you want to use, even if it is face-up on the field. It is important to realise that the symbol (OO) on a continuous Spell or Trap Card does not refer to the type of effect that card has (a continuous effect), it only means that the card will remain face-up when it is activated until it is destroyed or removed from the field by another card effect. This means not all Continuous Spell or Trap cards have continuous effects.

SUMMARISING: Continuous effect cards will still apply their effects throughout the Damage Step. Continuous cards like Royal Oppression do not have continuous effects, they have Trigger effects that must be triggered and activated.

    Response e).
Once again, two things are wrong about this response, the first (once again) being, Soldier of Mist Valley will not activate because, like we said, he will not be face-up on the field. Secondly, Thunder King Rai-Oh's effect has been interpreted incorrectly. From his effect text, we can see that only cards from the each players Decks cannot be added to the hand. Cards from the Graveyard, field or RFG can still be added to the hand while Thunder King Rai-Oh is on the field.

    Question 3:
    Correct answer: a
    a). 53.85%
    b). 34.62%
    c). 0%
    d). 0%
    e). 11.54%

I knew it would be between the first 2 answers that people would be most stumped on. Lets discuss,

    Response a).
The correct response. The most vital and important thing to know about Synchro Summoning is all in this question. ALL Synchro Material's (Tuner's and non-Tuner's) must be face-up on the field in order for a Synchro Summon to be performed. Face-down cards do not have a defined level and so you cannot use them to Synchro Summon a monster. So it does not matter which card Player B targets, either way, you cannot Synchro Summon a monster.

SUMARISING: All Synchro materials must be face-up to perform a Synchrp Summon.

    Response b).
First of all this response contains, for the most part, the same information as response a. with the extra "Krebons will be removed from play during the End Phase". This actually will not occur. This ruling is the same as the ruling with Swing of Memories. If a card Special Summoned by Swing of Memories is face-down during the End Phase it is not removed from play. Why? This is how it works:

    1. You activate Emergency Teleport and Summon Krebons.
    2. Emergency Teleport recognises that the card you Special Summoned is a level 3 or lower Psychic monster (Krebons) and will remove that monster from the field at the End Phase (Emergency Teleport becomes a lingering effect that will resolve at the End Phase).
    3. Krebons is flipped face-down during the turn.
    4. The End Phase is entered, Emergency Teleport tries to resolve its effect.
    5. In order to resolve, Emergency Teleport must check the field to make sure that the level 3 or lower Psychic monster is on the field. Instead, you have a face-down (with no defined level) and a Caius the Shadow Monarch.
    6. Emergency Teleport recognises that the face-down card was Special Summoned, but does not recognise it as the level 3 or lower Psychic monster anymore.
    7. Nothing happens.

So basically, because the face-down card cannot be recognised as the level 3 or lower psychic monster anymore the effect cannot resolve. The only way it will recognise your Krebons is if it was to stay face-up on the field.

SUMMARISING: Cards that are flipped face-down cannot be recognised by cards that require the destruction (or removal) that are specified (specific level, ATK, DEF etc).

    Response c).
This is incorrect due to the fact that Krebons is face-down. From knowing the information we do about Synchro Summoning, we know that face down cards do not have a defined level, and cannot be used to Synchro Summon a monster, EVEN if both player know what that monster is.

    Response d).
Once again, face-down monsters do not have a defined level.

    Response e).
Now this response i actually thought many people would pick, but it seems that most of you know how Solemn Judgment works. This is where i will begin to talk about inherent Special Summons, and Special Summons which will resolve through card effects, i will go into more detail about this in question 9. Summoning Krebons through Emergency Teleport is what we call a Special Summon by effect. Solemn Judgment cannot negate these type of Special Summons, so Krebons cannot be negated and destroyed. Why? Scroll down to Question 9 for the details.

    Question 4:
    Correct answer: a
    a). 23.08%
    b). 61.54%
    c). 7.69%
    d). 0%
    e). 7.69%

I am not so suprised this question was answered incorrectly by so many people. It is infact one of the most perplexing rulings of the game. Lets discuss.

    Response a).
To understand why this response is correct we must look at the rest of the responses in detail.

    Response b).
The most logical response is response b. We would expect to see Boomboxens attack halved (to 600) during Player A's turn, and Boomboxens attack to increase to 1600 during player B's turn through its effect. However it does not work that way. Cards like Blackwing Gale the Whirlwind capture and neutralise all of the attack modifiers and even the monsters effect itself which involves an ATK or DEF increase. What Gale does is sets a new current attack, which will be both independent of the monster's effect, current field cards that are in play or equipped cards equipped to that monster. If the ATK modifying card (like Double Tool C&D) is removed from the field during player B's turn, the 1000 ATK boost Boomboxen should have is not removed from Boomboxen at that time since the equip card has been neutralised (i.e it will not drop by 1000 to make him have an ATK of 0, his ATK is now stuck at 600). If you play a new equip card however, or introduce an new ATK or DEF modifying effect to Boomboxen, his ATK and DEF can be altered, but all current modifiers will no longer affect him.

SUMMARISING: Gale the Whirlwind's effect sets a new attack that is unaffected by all ATK/DEF modifiers on the field at the time of activation.

    Response c).
The reverse of response b. There is no way this response could be correct unless you have mixed up Double Tool C&D's effect.

    Response d).
Gale the Whirlwind does not state in its effect text that current ATK modifiers will be taken into account. Even if this was the case, some cards (like Morphtronic Map or United We Stand) can increase a cards ATK by looking at the number of things on the field. You can never put a defined value on a countable object if it can be infinite and so it would be impossible to take into account an ATK boost by cards like these.

    Response e).
We know a. is the correct response so e. cannot be correct.

    Question 5: FALSE
    True: 23.08%
    False: 76.92%

This statement is false because you do not "tribute" Synchro Material monsters, they are simply sent to the graveyard.

    Question 6: FALSE
    True: 0%
    False: 100%

Well done everyone! Mist Wurm cannot be Synchro Summoned with 2 Tuner monsters and a non-Tuner monster. He specifically states that 1 Tuner 2 or more non-Tuners must be used.

    Question 7: TRUE
    True: 46.15%
    False: 53.85%

Lots of you may have just misread the question. Junk Warrior's first effect targets the monster it wants to Special Summon, but his second effect (the negation effect) does not target. It is simply placed onto the monster it Summons. This is very similiar to Debris Dragon from the first question.

    Question 8: FALSE
    True: 7.69%
    False: 92.31%

Synchro Summons are Inherent Special Summons, we touched on this earlier on the quiz with Krebons. See the next question for reasons why.

    Question 9:
So i recieved many responses, and as long as you were on the right track in your explanation (you didn't need to make it sound professional xP just as long as you knew why), i awarded you the marks. So, what is an inherent Special Summmon and how do we identify them? As i briefly explained earlier, monsters that are Special Summoned from the resolution of another cards effect, are not "inherently" Special Summoned, they are Special Summoned instead by a card effect. Inherent Special Summon's are Special Summons where the monster Special Summon's itself, it does not use a card effect. Let's see how this works with Solemn Judgment with the Krebons example from question 3 and another example with Chaos Sorceror.

    SOLEMN JUDGMENT, EFFECT SPECIAL SUMMON:
Chain Link 1: Player A activates Emergency Teleport
    --- Chain Resolves ---
Chain Link 1: Krebons is Special Summoned to the field.

You cannot activated Solemn Judgment at this time. Why? A card effect is resolving and this causes the summon of Krebons, in order to use Solemn Judgment you must activate it at the summon window (before the monster is actually on the field). You cannot activate and start a new chain while card effects are still trying to resolve, so you must wait for Emergency Teleport to resolve before you can start a new chain with Solemn Judgment. So, because Emergency Teleport needs to fully resolve, and by the time it does, you have missed the summon window (the monster has already been summoned and the monster is already on the field, it is too late to negate that summon).

    SOLEMN JUDGMENT, INHERENT SPECIAL SUMMON:
Player A removes a LIGHT and DARK monster from his/her Graveyard and Special Summons Chaos Sorceror.
Chain Link 1: Player B activates Solemn Judgment
    --- Chain Resolves ---
Chain Link 1: Chaos Sorceror's Summon is negated and is destroyed.

Because Chaos Sorceror is trying to summon itself, you can activate Solemn Judgment in the summon window (while it is trying to Summon itself). A Sumoning condition is NOT a card effect, so no cards are trying to resolve, conditions are just being met. Inherent Special Summons like this are the only type of Special Summon that can be negated. Synchro Summons are inerent Special Summons.

SUMMARISING: Inherent Special Summons are monsters that Special Summon themselves, Effect Special Summons are monsters Special Summoned by a card effect trying to resolve, only Inherent Special Summons can be negated with cards like Solemn Judgment.

    Question 10:
I will PM all of you about your Question 10 results. Good luck! And i hope you all learnt something this week!

Only 1 person aced this test, and it was a very very hard one. Congratulations Supreme_King. You can take part in next weeks quiz but you will not recieve SC if you get the highest score.
