Guardian Sphinx and friends! Flip effect and set eff rulings.

OK most people know of the flip effect Guardian Sphinx and the monsters like him. Well I've never questioned if it's a legal move or not because of the yugioh ds games allow it, but lets set up a scenario for you.

Guardian Sphinxs is face up (been out for awhile)
You use the effect to turn it face down.
Now my question is that can you flip summon it after using it's effect?

Yes because it is just the effect of the card, not position changing.

Just making sure because I got in an argument last night about it, for the first time. XD

You can switch positions "manually" each turn, unless:

-You declared an attack with it.
-You already changed it
-You summoned it

this turn. GS's effect is "effect" , so it doesnt violate your manual switch so yes, it is a legal move

As Ruby said, the ruling to Battle Position changes is as follows:

1. You are allowed to change the position of a monster by effects as many times as you like per turn.
2. You are allowed to change the position of a monster manually once per turn.
3. You cannot manually change the position of a monster that was summoned on the same turn, only with card effects.
4. you cannot manually change the position of a monster that has declared an attack on the same turn, only with card effects.

In this situation you must think about what types of changes are being made.

The monster can flip itself down by effect once per turn (because its effect limits the use to once per turn), AND the owner can change it manually once per turn. The above scenario is legal given that Guardian Sphinx has not attacked this turn.
