The Basics:
1. In order you synchro summon you need a tuner monster
2. All syncrhos will list the requirements needed to synchro summon.
Example:
Stardust Dragon - Level 8 - 1 tuner 1 or more non-tuner monsters.
3. In order to synchro summon a stardust dragon you'll need a tuner and non tuner monsters whose levels equal a grand total of eight.
Examples:
a. Junk Synchron: Tuner/Effect/ Level 3 Zarbog the Thunder Monarch: Effect/Level 5
b.Blackwing - Blizzard the far north: Tuner/Effect/Level 2 Necroface: Effect/Level 4 (Total Levels: 6) Speed Warrior: Effect/Level 2 (Total Levels: 8)
4. For a card like stardust you can use as many monsters as long as one of them is a tuner and the one (or more) non tuner monster equals to level eight.
5. Some synchro monsters require special tuners and a certain amount of tuners in order to perform a successful synchro summon.
Example:
Roar Warrior - Level 8 - "Road Synchron" 2 or more non-Tuner Monsters
6. In order to summon Road Warrior you're gonna need what the card requires and all those monster's levels have to equal a grand total of eight.
Example:
Road Syncrhon: Machine/Tuner/Level 4 The Calculator: Thunder/Effect/Level 2 (Total Level:6) Sasuke Samurai: Warrior/Effect/Level 2 (Total Level: 8)
7. You can only synchro summon in your main phase.
That should pretty much cover how to synchro summon.
Rules about synchro summoning:
- A Synchro Summon is one kind of Special Summon, like Fusion Summon and Ritual Summon
- Performing a Synchro Summon does not start a chain.
- You cannot use face-down monsters to perform a Synchro Summon.
- The monsters used in Synchro Summoning are not treated as Tributed.
- You may also Synchro Summon more than once per turn, if you have the appropriate monsters out on the field to perform it,since it's a Special Summon.
- Synchro Monsters are like Fusion Monsters. Once the Synchro Monster is properly Synchro Summoned, it can be Special Summoned with "Monster Reborn", "Premature Burial", etc. as long as the Synchro Monster is not returned to the Extra Deck. If the Synchro Monster is sent to the Graveyard without being Summoned, such as by the effect of "Gale Dogra", then you cannot Special Summon it.
Personal tips:.
Synchro summoning requires a lot of monsters on the field because usually tuners are level 2 or 3 so it's a good idea to get a swarm deck that allows you to special summon. A reason why blackwings are so good for synchro decks is because of their ability to swarm the field setting up for synchro summons. Since blackwings are so overpowered and good for synchro summoning they are considered a meta deck. There are other decks that can swarm fast like zombies, and six samurai.
There are many decks that are good for swarming, look at the cards in KCVDS and figure out which swarming deck works best for you.
Some of the best tuners in the game are the tuners you often see most people using so you should be used to them, but here are some tuners I would recommend.
1. Blackwing - Gale the Whirlwind
Gale is good in any deck simply because it can cripple your opponent's big monsters and set up a synchro summon. It also allows you to add a blackwing armor master to your extra deck since it requires a blackwing tuner, and lastly,it is also allurable.
2. Krebons
Krebons is good in any deck because he's level two, most people prefer level 2 tuners over level 3 tuners. He is allurable and has a unique ability that lets you negate an attack for only 800 Life Points, it can stay on the field in one turn and give you time to summon something else and set up for monsters like Goyo Guadian.
3. Solider of Mist Valley
A level 4 tuner is rare, and this one has a good attack (1700) and effect (it sends any monster that attacks it to the end unless the monster is destroyed) with this and any other level 4 monster you can easily bring out stardust dragon, and if you have something tough to fight against you can just use SMV to attack something like a synchro summon and send it to the extra deck.
4. Plague Spreader Zombie
This level 2 tuner allows you to synchro summon at least twice in a duel so it's very good in any deck, and if used properly it can let you synchro up to five times in a single turn (I've done it)
