Alright, so in this article I will be talking about the one monster that is usually in every Synchroer's deck. It's a staple, and it's effect is so useful it has become limited. Here is: The Goyo Guardian
Now before we even look at the effect, we take a look at the card. As you can see, it's pretty powerful for a level 6. Sure, it's a synchro, but synchros actually get easier to summon then tribute monsters. Now, a level 6 Synchro, with an enormous atk power of 2800! Yes, that is enough to destroy Stardust Dragon, that annoying card that your Mirror Force and Bottomless Trap Hole just cant get rid of. Also, it's defense is pretty solid, so if it gets Book of Moon'd or Enemy Controller'd, it's ok because Bora the Spear wont touch him!
So, his attack and defense arent a joke, but let's take a look at why it was really limited. It's effect:
When this card destroys an opponent's monster by battle and sends it to the Graveyard, you can Special Summon that monster to your side of the field in face-up Defense Position.
What does that mean? It means that once you squash that annoying Stardust Dragon with your Goyo Guardian, you can take that Stardust Dragon! Yup, if your opponent has a monster, and you destroy it, you can go ahead and take it.
So you grab your opponent's monster. What next? Well, now you've got a free monster to do with as you please! You could use it for many things, such as:
Synchro Fodder: Yup, if you have a tuner, but dont want to give up your Goyo, and your opponent has a monster that's JUST the right level, you can go ahead and take it! Heck, if you keep it up long enough, you could steal your opponent's monster AND their tuner! What does that end up with? Your opponent just gave you a free Synchro! That'll really rile 'em up!
Tribute Fodder: Need to get that Caius or that Raiza onto the field? Well look no further, because Goyo's here to bring the goods! Just steal your opponent's monster, tribute that sucker, and wham! You got yourself a Caius, Raiza, or whatever other monster you need to summon!
Offense: Probably something everyone loves when the opponent uses a monster that has a huge amount of attack. So, your opponent has a nasty lookin Monarch, Dark Magician, or some other powerful monster. Well no problem, because Goyo's here! You can either face them head on, or use the awesome Book of Moon to flip their monster into defense mode. So why is defense good? Because these days, monsters with high attack usually have very low defense (Red Dragon Archfiend with the same defense as Goyo! Stardust Dragon, Brionac, the list can keep going!) So, grab their monster, pull it to your side, and attack the opponent with their own monster next turn!
Effect: Most of the time, your opponent will have some sweet monster on their side of the field with an awesome effect (Stardust Dragon, Diamond Dude, Brionac, etc.) Well, guess what? You want that effect! So you're going to grab your trust Goyo Guardian, and you're going to destroy their monster! Why? So that right after your battle phase, you could use the effect of that monster you just snatched!
Somethin you gotta remember, is that the monster HAS to be sent to the graveyard before you can special summon it. What does that mean? Well for starters, you cant take tokens. Tokens are never sent to the graveyard, and instead, they simply disappear upon destruction. Also, if you're attacking a monster like Plaguespreader, Quillbolt, or Battle Fader AFTER it's effect has been used, it is never sent to the graveyard. It's sent to the RFG, so you never get a chance to snatch it. Make sure you dont waste an attack on a monster you cant snatch!
Also, remember that Goyo HAS to survive the battle. You cant attack your opponent's 2800 ATK monster with your Goyo Guardian, watch them both blow up, and then expect to grab your opponent's monster. Goyo cant snatch, if he doesnt survive the battle.
Well, that should give you atleast a basic understanding about the wonderful Goyo Guardian!
